Female Intelligence: Women and Espionage
Saturday, April 9, 2022 - 10:30 AM Zoom Conference

Come do your bit – knit! Just as in WWI, knitting is a way to share comfort and bring a community of friends together to talk, laugh and create. Whether just starting out or an expert able to share your knowledge, join us. BYONY (bring your own needles and yarn). Your own projects are welcome!

Between 1909 and 1919, the British government recruited over 6,000 female spies. Working in military and civilian sectors and representing a diverse range of ages, classes, and nationalities, women within the intelligence community challenged 20th century gender roles and, many times, succeeded despite them. Learn more with Dr. Tammy Proctor, Distinguished Professor of History at Utah State University and author of Female Intelligence: Women and Espionage in the First World War, as she recounts the extraordinary stories of WWI’s female spies.
