The National WWI Museum and Memorial Writing Award recognizes a nonfiction book or article on the Great War and its enduring impact on the global community. Awarded annually in partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City, this prize is made possible through the generous support of the late Dr. Stanley Parsons, historian and UMKC professor emeritus.
The working language of all submissions is English.
Eligibility:
- Publications of peer-reviewed nonfiction. Submissions should reflect literary merit, research accuracy, originality, and overall significance to the field. Collections of essays are not eligible.
- Books must have a copyright date no more than two prior calendar years.
- Articles must be published in a peer-reviewed journal or magazine no more than one year prior to submission. Preference will be given to robust incorporation of primary source materials.
- Submissions must be well-written and accessible, with appeal to both crossover audiences and the public.
Prize:
- $1,200 for book
- $300 for article
Recipients will be recognized during a designated program during awarding year.
Submission process:
- Authors and/or publishers must complete the online entry form by June 1.
- Authors and/or publishers must mail four copies of each submitted book to the Museum and Memorial. Books are to be received [not postmarked] by June 30.

- The Committee recognizes the expense to authors and publishers associated with submitting four copies of each nominated book and therefore encourages serious submissions only. Please note that books will not be returned and that only award winners will be notified of selection.
