Scouts must check in by 9:15 a.m. and should plan to remain onsite until 12 p.m. No scouts may leave before the Ceremony concludes, and late arrivals may miss vital instructions and be turned away. Detailed instructions will be sent via email on May 15.
Yes, with one requirement: all scouts must wear consistent scouting attire to participate. We understand this looks different across programs – if you have questions about what's appropriate, please contact Education@theworldwar.org. Scouts who arrive in attire deemed inappropriate for the Ceremony will not be permitted to participate.
There is no age minimum – scouts of all ages and organizations are welcome! Each participant should be able to follow instructions, walk calmly as part of a large group and conduct themselves with the solemnity this Ceremony deserves.
A chaperone or troop leader may accompany younger scouts while in line, though wreaths must be laid independently. Scouts who may not be ready for that role are warmly encouraged to join us in the audience instead.
Each troop must have a minimum of 4 scouts to be eligible. There is no maximum – sign up as many as you'd like!
We are working to place exactly 441 wreaths and need your help making that happen. Please be as accurate as possible when submitting your participant count and contact Education@theworldwar.org promptly if your numbers change.
Yes! After the Ceremony, each participating scout will receive an exclusive commemorative patch. Patches will be distributed to each scout at the conclusion of the Ceremony. Scouts will also be provided with water and a light snack before the Ceremony begins.
Troop leaders or designated chaperones will supervise scouts before and after the Ceremony at a ratio of no more than 1 adult per 4 scouts, as gathering space is limited. All other accompanying adults and families will be seated with the general public to enjoy the Ceremony. Instructions for reconnecting with scouts afterward will be included in the May 15 email.
- කරුණාකර සටහන් කර ගන්න: parents and non-chaperone adults may not remain in the scout staging area before the Ceremony, and no scout may be removed early – doing so would be disruptive and disrespectful to the event and other participants.
Of course! However, adults working as chaperones will not be in a physical position to take photographs during the Ceremony. Accompanying adults are welcome to photograph the event in a way that does not disrupt proceedings. Each troop will also have a group photo opportunity when wreaths are distributed.
Just themselves. From check-in through the end of the Ceremony, scouts may not carry any personal items – including water bottles, backpacks, bags or food. Water will be provided while scouts are waiting. Chaperones may carry a bag with any necessary supplies, but please be aware there will be no designated area to set bags down or retrieve them during the event.
