1914: Global War and American Neutrality

  Examine the origins of, reactions to and early confrontations in the First World War including the political, diplomatic, military, cultural and scientific developments prior to the war that contributed to its outbreak. This not to be missed event is co-presented by the National WWI Museum and Memorial and the U.S. Centennial Commission, in association with the Western Front Association - East Coast Branch and the World War One Historical Association, sponsored by Colonel J's, the Neighborhod Tourist Development Fund of Kansas City, Missouri and Verlag Militaria.  Join speakers Lisa Adeli, Christopher Capozzola, John Milton Cooper, Robert Doughty, Nicholas Lambert, Sean McMeekin, Michael Neiberg, Phillip G. Pattee, Dennis Showalter, Jay Winter and others in a provocative exploration of European and American reactions in society and military on land and sea.


Who should attend? 

All who have a general to professional interest in the periods prior to, during and after World War I should attend this symposium. It especially applies to historians and members of organizations that study these periods and to those who are engaged in planning projects and programs for the war’s centennial between 2014-2018.

Refund Policy:

The Museum and Memorial will honor a 50-percent refund on registration fees until Oct. 1. After Oct. 1, no refunds will be granted. Attendees may contact Mark Gunter at (816) 888.8103 to request a refund.

Thursday, November 6: Check-in available at the Museum (3 - 5 p.m.) and the Marriott (6 - 8 p.m.)


Friday, November 7: 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.; 6:30 p.m. Cocktail hour, dinner and presentation (at the Marriott)


Saturday, November 8: 8:30 a.m. - 1 p.m.
