Public Safety Day
The free event is designed to educate and inform the community, and especially youth museum visitors, about the public safety resources available to them. This event will host numerous security, police, fire and medical static displays in a family friendly environment.
Free activities at the event will include:
- Child Identity Kits – Parents can pick up free Child ID Kits that they can personalize for use at home.
Kansas City Fire Department – Kids can get up close to a real fire truck and meet real firefighters.
Kansas City Police Department – Children can see police patrol vehicles and meet police officers who help preserve and protect the city.
Kansas City Crime Stoppers – See a very special Crime Stoppers sport-utility vehicle.

Inflatable Obstacle Course (Youth 12 & Under)

July 8 – 10Collections Camp: Military HistoryThe American Association for State and Local History will be holding a military collections workshop at the Museum on July 8–10. This three-day workshop will focus on the care, conservation and exhibition of military artifacts in museum collections. Spend time working with conservators and curators to learn how to be better stewards of your military history collection. This workshop is intended for museum staff and volunteers who work in any type of museum that has collections of a military nature.
Cost: $275 members / $340 nonmembers; $20 discount if fee is received by AASLH by June 8. For more information, go to

“The Great War, the Great Movies” special summer feature
“Wilson.” This 1944 bio-pic of the 1917-18 wartime president won five Academy Awards©, including Best Actor for Alexander Knox. Presented in conjunction with Ottawa University, the film will include an introduction and discussion of the film by Dr. John Tibbetts, Associate Chair and Associate Professor, Department of Theater and Film, University of Kansas. Dr. Tibbetts is well known to local audiences as a reporter for CBS television and National Public Radio. This free event will take place in the J.C. Nichols Auditorium of the National World War I Museum.
